1974 Michigan State- Volume 1

Victory Denied
November 9th, 1974, East Lansing, Michigan: the undefeated and number one-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes versus the upset-minded Spartans of Michigan State; a game that ended in what many observers still call the most controversial climax in the history of the Big Ten.

Coming into the game, the undefeated Buckeyes had completely dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball. Michigan State on the other hand, was a mediocre 4-3-1, including a 56-14 drubbing at the hands of UCLA.

The game looked like a mismatch, but as they entered the final quarter, the Buckeyes clung to a ten-point lead. And when the Spartans scored two unlikely touchdowns, the stage was set for a last-second climax that is still debated today.
