1975
Michigan- Volume 2
Back
From the Brink
As Ohio State headed into their annual season-ending
showdown with Michigan, the 1975 season had already
unfolded as one of the most memorable campaigns in
Ohio State history. Entering the game, the Buckeyes
were undefeated, ranked number one and featured a
running back, Archie Griffin, who was soon to be named
college football’s first two-time Heisman Trophy winner.
But
the Wolverine defense put the clamps on Griffin and
the Ohio State offense went over three periods without
mustering even one first down.
With
just over seven minutes remaining in the game, the
Buckeye trailed the Wolverines 14-7 and their national
title hopes looked desperately bleak. What transpired
next led Woody Hayes to call this game his “greatest
comeback ever.”
