1979
Season- Volume 2
A
New Beginning
The 1979 Ohio State football season was notable
for many reasons; none more so than it was the first
season in 28 years without Woody Hayes as coach. But
behind the leadership of new coach Earle Bruce, the
1979 Buckeyes shocked the nation, rising from relative
obscurity to come within seconds of winning the national
championship.
The
road to the Rose Bowl was as exciting as it was unexpected.
A brilliant two-minute drill versus UCLA opened the
eyes of country, and a thrilling come-from-behind
victory at Michigan capped an undefeated season and
put the Buckeyes in Pasadena.
And
while a one point Rose Bowl loss kept the Buckeyes
from the national title, the 1979 Ohio State Buckeyes
are forever enshrined as one the greatest Buckeyes
teams ever.
