What made it so special? For starters, the
winner was named the Big Ten champ every year. But on top
of that was the rivalry within the rivalry; or in other
words, Woody vs. Bo.
In Schembechler’s first year at Michigan,
1969, Michigan pulled off one of the greatest upsets of
all time defeating the number one Buckeyes 24-12, setting
the stage for the next nine years.
Woody got his revenge the following year
and over the course of the decade the annual battle between
Woody and Bo became one of college football’s most anticipated
events.
