49.
Paul Warfield
As a member of the NFL’s prestigious Hall of Fame, Paul Warfield
is widely regarded as one of pro football’s greatest wide
receivers. But when Paul was a Buckeye, gridiron glory as
a silky smooth wide-out seemed about as likely as completing
a Hail Mary pass.
Why?
Because Warfield played halfback at Ohio State, a position
that mainly called for blocking in Woody Hayes’ ground-oriented
attack. But in spite of his supporting role, Warfield’s
star talent did not go un-noticed: by his teammates, who
call him the greatest player the ever saw, or by the pros.
