Tom Skladany
The mid-seventies saw a cavalcade of talent descend on Columbus
to play football for the Buckeyes. Yet in those halcyon days
of Heisman heroics, only two players made All-American three
different times: One carried the ball ... the other one kicked
it.
Skladany punted and kicked-off as a true freshman, but
an injury at the end of his inaugural season gave him the
boost he needed for the next three years.
Woody
Hayes made Tom the first kicker ever given scholarship money
to play at Ohio State. Skladany paid Hayes back with game
changing punts ... out of the end zone kick-offs ... and
a still-school record 59-yard field goal. As a senior, Skladany
claimed another Buckeye first when his fellow players voted
him captain.
