2003 Fiesta Bowl
The experts said the Buckeyes didn’t stand a chance. But when
the 2003 Fiesta Bowl was over, an instant classic was born
and the national title was in Ohio State‘s hands.
Of
course the experts had their reasons for picking Miami.
The Hurricanes were the defending national champs and they
entered the game riding a 34-game winning streak.
The
Buckeyes, on the other hand, were seen as the scrappy upstarts
who’d escaped defeat all season long. Taken together, it
added up to a 13-point spread in favor of the ‘Canes.
But
the Buckeyes were having none of that. And after four ties,
three lead changes, two overtimes, and countless heart attacks,
it all came down to one final play.
