Chic Harley
When Chic Harley took the field in 1916, the Buckeyes suddenly
became the class of the Big Ten and Ohio State football went
from a local athletic afterthought to the hottest ticket in
town.
In
1919, he led the Buckeyes to their first victory over Michigan
after 18 years of frustrating futility, igniting college
football’s fiercest rivalry
Chic’s
popularity filled tiny Ohio Fields to the brim and gave
the university a problem it never envisioned. Their answer;
Ohio Stadium, became the centerpiece of Ohio State football
and one of college football’s most enduring landmarks.
